Sparks of History

Small victories on the streets of Helsinki is the subject of series of posters by Boynik and Henriksson.

History gets written from the perspective of the winners, which in the case of Helsinki urban space has been and still is the national bourgeoisie. There is no room for commemoration of genuine People’s struggles, such as the uprising in 1918 for better working and living conditions. Rather, these uprisings are remembered merely as acts of sabotage and terrorism. By visualising moments of mass uprisings as diagrams, we wish to remind of the victorious moments and ignite sparks toward future.
