North State

The work ‘North State’ is one of the outcomes of my observations of everyday regarding manifestations of nationalism and racism. It is an installation of a collection of commercial products from Finland, mainly food and beverages, which either visually or verbally manifest a form of collective identity, most often that of Finnishess. Some of them are sophisticated and hidden, others aggressively and obviously nationalistic and/or racist. Aim in the work was to show the volume of nationalist signs in everyday life that we have perhaps become so used to that we do not even recognize.
